Things We Wear In Rainy Season

Things We Wear In Rainy Season

If you walk to or from your home, gym, or workplace regularly, the rainy season can be a pretty frustrating and unpredictable period. Imagine experiencing a warm, sunny day only to have flooded roads and heavy rains just when you’re about to knock off and head home. But, by changing our attitudes and the things we wear in the rainy season, we can prepare for such scenarios, and keep ourselves dry throughout the season.

Other than your trusty umbrella, you’ll need to have rubber ankle rain boots to help keep your feet clean and dry as you walk through puddles of mud and water. You’ll also need to carry a waterproof jacket. Ideally a longer one that can help keep both your torso and upper legs dry. Also, if your bag isn’t waterproof, you should have a water-resistant pouch for your electronics and other sensitive materials. We have some additional tips on the best things to wear in the rainy season below.

Rubber Footwear

While it can be tempting to rock your heels, dress shoes, or sneakers in this weather, try not to. These shoes provide minimal traction and water resistance.

No matter what outfit you’re wearing, throwing on a pair of ankle-high rubber boots will be both stylish and will help keep your feet dry. They’ll also provide excellent traction on slippery surfaces and offer comfort when walking long distances, but only if you get the fit right, so be sure to find the perfect pair.

Add Some Color To Your Day

Sure, the rainy season can be gloomy and everything, but that doesn’t mean your wardrobe should be just as dull. For example, rubber boots keep your feet warm, but you don’t have to limit yourself to dark colors.

It’s important to stay positive and keep your spirits high in these dreary months. So, brighten up your day by adding a pop of color to your outfit with your boots. And if bright colors aren’t your thing, you can always choose muted colors instead.

Waterproof Jacket

It’s a good thing that there are now more raincoat options beyond the plastic ponchos you can find at convenience stores. While these work great for emergencies, they aren’t a good long term option, and you can find many more chic-looking choices.

If you invest the time and dig a little, you can find a stylish jacket to keep you warm and dry. Ideally, it would help if you had something versatile that could be worn at both the office and on a night out with friends.

You can find a waterproof jacket to complement any lifestyle, no matter your needs. Some features to look out for are taped seams, breathable fabrics, and adjustable hoods to protect your head.

Water-Resistant Bag

Your boots and jacket will keep you dry, but what about your valuables? You wouldn't want your electronics, documents, and other stuff to become soaking wet. Thus, a water-resistant bag is a must-have in the rainy season.

It's not too difficult to find a bag that holds up well against the water and doesn’t absorb rain. Just confirm whether the bag is waterproof or only water-resistant. And remember, most bags will let in some moisture in the case of extremely heavy rain.

PVC, nylon, coated canvas, and patent leather materials are your best bet for the most outstanding water resistance. Suede, silk, and lambskin leathers aren’t ideal for wetter days.

Neutral Undergarments

Along with changing our footwear and switching to waterproof bags and jackets, we also need to keep our innerwear in mind. You wouldn't want the entire neighborhood to know you're wearing your favorite red underwear if you get drenched on your way home from work. Neutral underwear allows you to keep your poise if you get caught in the rain while wearing a more light colored dress or pair of pants.

The type of fabric is also crucial. The rainy season can become very hot in some places and quite cold in others, so you need to make sure you have the proper type of material for the weather you’re dealing with. It’s best to talk directly with a sales assistant at your local clothing store to get their recommendations on which type of fabric will best suit the climate you live in.

Final Thoughts

The rainy season can be pretty unpredictable. One minute, it’s sunny with clear skies, and the next, it’s raining cats and dogs. You can stay dry by wearing the right things throughout the wet season. Rubber boots are a must-have. It would be best if you also carried a waterproof bag and jacket. But just because the weather outside is grey, your personal items don’t have to be, so have some fun with your choices, choose some bright colors and stay dry!
