Oberon Wide Gumboot

After quite a bit of research, I decided on the Oberon Wide Gumboot for our Alaska cruise, and they completely exceeded my expectations.

I needed something that could handle rainy port days, light hiking excursions, and long days of walking, while still looking stylish enough to wear around the ship and in town. These checked every box. They were comfortable from the very first wear with no rubbing, hot spots, or blisters, even after full days on my feet. The wider toe box gives your feet room without feeling bulky, and the supportive sole provided much better traction than a traditional rain boot.

I also love the look of them. As an interior designer, I’m often visiting construction sites during the winter months, and these feel like the perfect balance of practical and polished. They’re a boot I can wear on muddy job sites, while walking my dog on rainy mornings, or traveling without feeling like I’m sacrificing style.

If you’re looking for a waterproof boot that’s genuinely comfortable enough for all-day wear and versatile enough for travel, everyday errands, and light outdoor adventures, I highly recommend these. They were one of the best purchases I made for our Alaska trip, and I know I’ll be reaching for them for years to come.

I was really sad a few years ago when i discovered Merry People changed manufacturers and the Bobbi boots were now too tight on my wide feet. Such fun colours in excellent boots i thought were no longer available to me. So i was delighted when they released their Oberon boots with pointed extra width! Next time i needed new boots i selected a pair. Not near as many fun colour choices but they did have yellow (straw) and it's my current buzz colour. They fit so well and make me happy...er, merry. The leg hole pressed a little on my shin the first few times i wore them and made it a little tender. They stretch and mould slightly as you wear them though and they are now great all round. But honestly, these ones didn't really require as much wear in periods which was wonderful. I was able to order them while in New Zealand and can now continue exploring this beautiful neighbour country with Merry People keeping me smiling as much as the views. The quality rubber and wetsuit fabric lining is comfortable, warming and dry. I love knowing my feet are cheerful and well covered.

I have tried many gumboots for long walks in the winter but I have standard 8.5 wide feet. (And they all killed my feet)

So, when I saw the Oberon boots were wide so decided to take a chance. I did end up getting size 40 since my regular 39s were all sold out. Figured I wear thick socks anyway, and was sceptical about sizing. I was fully prepared to send them back. But! The wide fit is wide. The 40s are good for thick socks although I do still have a bit of room. Would definitely buy a second pair in another colour in my preferred size, these will get me through this years winter/wet days though!

Please keep making wide feet boots!!
